FYC 6421 Nonprofit Organizations

The nonprofit sector is increasing in scope and in number of organizations. Nonprofits are an important part of the economy and operate in major sectors that include health care, education, social services, arts and recreation, business and professional associations and religion. Nonprofits serve many societal needs and they are important for the implementation of government programs and initiatives at the local, state and federal level. There are many challenges as well as opportunities in the nonprofit sector and leaders of today's and tomorrow's organizations must be prepared for change and complexity. This course prepares students to participate in the governance, policy and decision-making, and planning functions of national and international nonprofit organizations. The focus of the course is on developing a business plan that includes the major components of a successfully functioning nonprofit organization. 

FYC 6422 Case Studies and Policy of Nonprofit Organizations

Prerequisites: This course is designed for graduate students. FYC 6421 Nonprofit Organizations is a required prerequisite.

This course focuses on the study and analysis of cases and policy related to the development and operation of nonprofit organizations. The goal of this course is that students will be able to understand, analyze and apply the knowledge base of current nonprofit concepts, theories and practices through the study of real and hypothetical situations.

FYC 6423 Non Governmental Organizations 

Development of a knowledge base of concepts, history, ideas and information based on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) as they evolved from the work of the United Nations. Emphasis will be given to the operation of NGOs/INGOs or coalition within a specific context of policy, culture, geography and social movement.
