A report from Independent Sector reveals that nonprofit employment grew at an annual rate of 2.5 percent between 1997 and 2001, significantly higher than the 1.8 percent and 1.6 percent growth rates for business and government, respectively, over the same period. The report, Employment in the Nonprofit Sector, found that the number of Americans employed in the nonprofit sector had more than doubled in the last 25 years and today approaches some 12.5 million workers, or 9.5 percent of the total workforce. Within the sector, 42 percent of all workers were employed in health services, while education ranked second, employing 22 percent of all nonprofit workers. The report also projected that the number of people employed in the sector would reach 15 million by 2010, with significant growth in the areas of health and human/social services.

The American Society of Association Executives allows you to search their job database, post a resume, check on careers in associations, or request a critique of your resume for a fee. Jobs are divided into 6 sections, covering everything from Support Services to Education to Fundraising, but you can also search "All sections" or use keywords to find what you want. Nice feature -- find one job you like, and you can easily scan all other jobs in the same section or posted by the same employer. Free registration is not required to use this site, but if you do register your resume you can also set up a free job tracking and email alert service.

Their web site is a good source of information on nonprofit organizations and job and volunteer opportunities in the nonprofit sector. Job postings remain online until the employer notified NCN that the position has been filled.
